Jazmine Stansbury

Nickname: Jaz, Jazzy, Jazminda, Minda

Age: 23

Hometown: Reading

Twitter: @aquabatiquejaz

Other Occupation: A mix of things at the moment: Personal Trainer, Synchronised Swimmer for Aquabatix, Synchronised Swimming Coach and I also do some Receptionist work and I’m also a Health Care Assistant…. Oh and I sometimes Deliver Dentures! Ha

Synchronised Swimming Background: I started Synchro at the age of 10, competed at Club, County, Regional and National Levels throughout and went on to do England Talent Development Teams from the age of 16.
I qualified for the Junior Great Britain Team at the age of 17 and carried on into the Great Britain Senior Team at 18 where I trained towards the Olympics for Three and a Half Years as a full time athlete.
My Biggest Achievements in Synchro are being selected as the Junior GB Soloist for the Junior Europeans in 2007 and then competing at the Fina World Championships in Rome 09 in the Free Team and combo routine, my two favourite events!
I now work for Aquabatix where I love performing and doing what I love whilst hopefully entertaining people with it!

Idol: My Idol at the moment is Jessica Ennis, such a great Athlete having to be so strong at so many events must take so much hard work, dedication and commitment! I’ll be rooting for her during the Olympics!
Also, since watching I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here, I really admire Fatima Whitbread for her ruthless athletic mentality. She won’t stop at anything to get what she wants and she is always in it to win it - love it! Mental toughness even in the face of adversity - you’ve got to give it to her, the cockroach up the nose drama was a very sticky situation and pulled through and cracked on– Legend!

Your biggest influence: My family are my Biggest Influence. I am really close to my Filipino side of my family, we are all very close and I know they are always there for me if I need them. My mum, aunties and uncles are all very hard working people with great morals. They are the most welcoming and friendly people you will ever meet! They remind me to treat everyone with respect and to always work hard at anything I do (even if it is just delivering dentures) and especially to fight back when things don’t go quite your way because you can make things happen if you really want them too. I hope that by being part of Aquabatique, I can do them Proud!
My biggest Influence on my synchronised swimming career was Gemma Mengual, the number one Spanish synchronized swimmer. She swims beautifully almost as if she was made for the water. I loved watching her swim and I even had the chance to train with her once when I went on training GB camp in Barcelona which was very exciting!

Favourite memory: My favourite memory was after I had swum the Team Free Routine at the World Championships. After a long and really tough training camp abroad and training away from home in preparation for the competition, it was a great feeling to finish and know that we had done a good job. All the hard work and all the nerves building up to it were all worthwhile as we received great marks from the judges and our coaches were smiling. It was high fives and hugs all-round the team! My best friend and team mate, Katie Skelton (Still a current GB Synchro Athlete) and I were over the moon, best feeling in the world to have done such an achievement representing the Country.

Most Prized Possession:  It’s boring but it has to be my iPhone. I don’t know how the world coped without them.  Emails, Facebook, Twitter… If I don’t know the answer to something - Google! Most importantly, I rely on it when I get lost, which is fairly often!

Interesting fact about you:I once appeared in a Tetley Tea advert

Ambitions:To be able to perform full time with Aquabatique and for Aquabatix.  I would love to do a tour or to have our own show. That would be a dream come true! I also really want to meet the Queen and the Royal Family.
I also hope to raise the profile of Synchronised Swimming in this country as it is definitely underappreciated for the number of hours training, dedication and commitment the girls give to the sport in order for it to be so impressive! That’s not only the girls on the British team but at club standard too. It’s such a difficult sport not only physically but technically too, have a watch on YouTube!
